The parade of the Rotary Club of La Porte kicks off the 4th of July festivities

The procession will take place on Saturday July 2. The day will also include a trade day, food trucks and fireworks.

The neighboring communities of Pasadena and Deer Park will hold their celebrations on July 4, which will each include bands and fireworks.

Parade and events at the Porte

On July 2, participants will begin lining up at La Porte High School, 301 Fairmont Parkway. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Broadway and Fairmont, then move up Broadway to A Street, said Rotary Club president-elect Mason Peres.

Peres, who is leading this 12th edition of the parade, said the event, which traditionally draws throngs of spectators along the street, looks to be even bigger this year.

“We’re trying to get the most floats we’ve ever had and also to get the most turnout,” he said.

In years past, the parade had about 45-50 floats and attracted about 6,000 spectators.

This year, Peres said, “we hope to get 80 floats. We have thousands of people queuing along the (road). It’s a huge city event.

Peres said expectations were high for a record-breaking event and for good reason.

“We are working on having a classic car show right at the end of the parade and we are partnering with the town of La Porte and will be (hosting) trade days on the main street.”

La Porte holds Main Street Trade Days on the first Saturday of every month.

“We’ll have a bunch of different vendors, craft stalls and food trucks,” Peres said.

Later today, the annual 4th of July fireworks display will begin just after dusk. The rockets and their red glow will be launched from Sylvan Beach Park, 636 N. Bayshore Blvd.

The explosive spectacle can be watched from the park, offshore on a boat, or almost anywhere in town with a clear view of the sky.

“People pull up at the high school and watch,” Peres said.

La Porte isn’t the only town with holiday festivities this year. The other events will actually take place on the 4th of July.

Pasadena Fiestas

Pasadena will bring a lot of punch to its 4th Fest this year.

Things will start at 4 p.m. at the Pasadena Municipal Fairgrounds, 7902 Fairmont. There, attendees will find food trucks, a kids’ zone, wagon rides, and vendors galore.

Moreover, there will not be one group, but two.

That day will feature Houston cover band The Slags as well as Pasadena’s Gray Falls.

A fireworks display will close the evening. The show will start around 9:15 p.m.

Deer Park Fourth

Another 4th Fest will be found just down the road one piece.

Deer Park will host its Independence Day celebration at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center, 500 W. 13th St., and promises music, food and fun.

Starting at 5 p.m., attendees can don their gnosh while watching a cornhole tournament.

Artist-rockers The Band Hennessy will take the stage at 7:00 p.m. and then play until a fireworks display begins around 9:15 a.m.
