“Tri State Saturday” is back this Labor Day weekend! The St. Joseph River Yacht Club can’t wait to see you. This day-long party is traditionally known as the celebration of the completion of the first leg of the annual Tri-State Regatta, but means so much more to members of the yacht club.

Each year, members and staff look forward to celebrating summer with their friends and neighbors, while emphasizing the club’s mission to provide a relaxed atmosphere, affordable prices, and a spirit of camaraderie and education, all while drawing on a rich history of boating, swimming and socializing in the club’s unique nautical location.

“This party has a ‘more the merrier’ feel and our members are delighted to have everyone join them for a day of fun, food, music and dancing.” says Tri-State Committee Chairman Kim Kragt. “It’s just a great time where everyone, of all ages, comes together to celebrate summer by the lake.”

The event is almost entirely organized by volunteer club members who take care of all the jobs, from grilling and serving dinner, taking tickets, working in the bars and the beer truck and cooking. sale of goods. With paid staff shrinking and many returning to middle school and high school, it has been a long-standing tradition for yacht club members to volunteer to make sure the community has a good night out. For member sailors, it is their way of offering hospitality to all sailors in their “home port”.

Kim says there is a great sense of excitement for this year’s event. When she took the helm as president in 2020, they kept high hopes and tried to plan the 2020 party the previous February. But when the event was canceled, like most events in 2020, they put the planning aside. Then, in February of this year, the committee came together with energy and enthusiasm, ready to ensure this was the best Saturday of the tri-state to date.

“We think it’s going to be a great year. Everyone is so looking forward to going out, being with people and having fun. The committee has been ready to plan this event for over a year now, ”explains Kim. “We wanted to make sure this year is bigger and better for everyone. It will be a great day on the lake for the sailors, crew, community and volunteers.
