The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has launched a familiarization exercise, “FAMEX – 2021”, aimed at equipping the administration for a rapid and effective response to emergencies.

According to a press briefing, the 13-day exercise is a joint program of an NDRF battalion, Arakkonam, in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority.

Given the paradigm shift from a relief-centric approach to a holistic and proactive approach in managing various disasters, the task of disaster risk management and resilience building requires the participation of multiple agencies at different levels. , from local to state. The NDRF team consists of 15 people led by Chandan Kuman, Deputy Inspector, and Amit Kumar, Deputy Inspector, while the district side facilitation involving multiple departments is led by District Collector Purva Garg and N. Tamilselvan , deputy collector.

The NDRF deployed divers, swimmers, rescuers, an OBM boat operation and a demolition expert, equipped with a tree cutting machine, a concrete wrecker, an OBM boat (engine out- board), buoys and night flares.

Ms. Garg, while appreciating the services of the NDRF during the recent heavy rains, asked them to familiarize themselves with the vulnerable areas and to carry out awareness programs in particular for the cadets of the NCC, the civil defense and the volunteers of the NSS.
