Despite what is happening in the world these days, yachting industry is going well.
The recent controversy over the travel and vacation habits of wealthier people has been widely covered.
However, it must be admitted that if they were not there, the millions of people who work in the sector would be out of work. As this domain is monitored, its actors are forced to show themselves and work more responsibly in their way of doing business. They also work to make and maintain the attractiveness of the industry, especially for younger generations.
The imagination, technology and knowledge deployed is phenomenal and this year’s Monaco Yacht Show showcased some of the best innovative, sustainable and futuristic products.
It was hard to pick a few but some of the following were definitely worth highlighting.
The ships of the future
As true maritime aficionados like to say, the industry started with sailboats and it seems like they’ve taken a step back over the past two decades.
S/Y Perseverance
They have not gone away, indeed, shipyards have researched new materials and technologies to produce faster, lighter and more durable ships. This is the case of 39 m SY Perseverance. The industry awarded her the status of world’s best superyacht and best design and innovation in 2022.
Its design, sober but chic and classy, stands out. But, what makes it unique (for now) is that it delivers incredible performance from mast to keel.
Built with materials and partners with the lowest carbon footprint, it was designed to consume less and perform better. Engineers from the Finnish shipyard Baltic Yachts have equipped her with technology: smart cabins to help reduce energy consumption, and energy-efficient LED lighting on board, she even has a system that allows the yacht to reuse its energy to heat water on board for showers and dishwashers.
When sailing at a speed of 14-15 knots, it recovers 25 kW from the battery. She is available for charter, the owner has spearheaded her efforts by partnering with brands that have the same sustainable ethos. For example, the onboard toiletries or the recyclable water bottles that are offered to customers when they charter the Sailing Yacht Perseverance.
Riva and Laneva boats
You may think this approach is easy because it is a new ship, but shipyards are also working on retrofitting existing ships.
This is the case of the famous Riva Boats. First shown at the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, the Italians have partnered with Laneva Boats to build and offer a way for a classic Riva boat to become the zero emissions icon luxury yachting. Remove the motor from the boat and replace it with ultra-compact, high-performance axial flux motors, the same ones tested in aviation and high-density battery cells.

Laneva Boats CEO François Richard explained that “with the new protection of environmental regulations coming soon, we had to think about solutions”. Owners of Italian and Swiss Riva boats mostly sail on lakes and do not necessarily want to change their expensive Riva boats. Some of them have been in their family for years. This new technology is ideal for them. They can keep their boats and continue to use them on the lakes without polluting.
It is all the more pleasant for them as the new Lanéva Vesper system offers a silent, vibration-free and odor-free experience.

Living Perfumes
We all know that scented products can trigger a memory or emotion in our brain. Some scents have the power to stimulate or soothe our mind. With this in mind, Viveur has developed a machine that, when installed in a room, sprays through the ventilation system and releases a small dose of a chosen scent. Made with essential oils, these can be personalized according to the wishes of the owner.
Miles Guy Cartley, Creative Director, explains: “It’s a great way for a charter yacht to have its own unique scent ‘imprinted’ on a guest’s mind, as each one can be unique.” They can be bottled in small sprays and given as gifts to charter guests. to keep a fragrant memory of their holidays. OceanR Clothing
OceanR stands for Ocean Recycled. Tom Cotter, the owner, came up with the concept of the business when he realized that fashion is one of the biggest industries in the world and the second most polluting.
Passionate about water sports, he quickly became aware of the plastic problems of the sea. “We are the first generation to suffer the consequences of climate change” he declares “and one of the few to take active measures for the Stop. Creating OceanR was about changing the status quo of fast fashion and introducing a new way of thinking about what we wear.
The OceanR collection is designed to have the minimum impact on the environment and therefore the garments are made with sustainable and recycled materials.
Designed for men, for women or being unisex, the clothes are colorful and taken from nature, in recycled polyester or organic cotton, the range also includes towels and other seafood products and is very appreciated by the yachting industry.
