“It’s a huge honor to be recognized for this award,” said Derecktor. “My father started this business in 1947 with a small team of dedicated workers. Today we have a much larger and more diverse team that is also dedicated to delivering top quality work. I am proud of what we have accomplished over the years and excited about the future of the business.

75 years ago in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Robert Derecktor set out to build boats without compromise. Since then, Derecktor Shipyards has grown in size, location and reputation, becoming an international shipyard of choice for superyachts seeking expert service or refit.

Under the leadership of Paul Derecktor, the company made a name for itself on the world stage in 1987 when Stars & Stripes captured the America’s Cup in spectacular fashion. Then again in 2010, with the launch of the 85-meter (279-foot) Cakewalk, the largest yacht ever built in the United States. In 2012, Derecktor introduced the world’s tallest mobile boat winch at its Dania Beach yard, a 900-tonne machine capable of hauling yachts up to 60 m (197 ft) in length.

As the size of yachts continues to increase, so does Derecktor’s commitment to maintaining them. In 2021, Derecktor has once again unveiled the world’s largest mobile boat winch, but this time at its brand new Fort Pierce Harbor shipyard. With a capacity of 1,500 tonnes, the massive lift can safely transport boats up to 75m (246ft) in length out of the water for maintenance or refit.

More recently, Derecktor Ft. Pierce’s 1,500 ton machine carried M/Y Coral Ocean, a 73m (240ft) superyacht launched in 1994 by Lürssen. Weighing nearly 1,300 tons, she is the largest yacht ever towed using strap lift technology anywhere in the world.
