Windstar Cruises today took delivery of its all-suite Star Plus Star Pride class from the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. The yacht is the third and last of the Star Plus Class yachts in the lineup to be stretched and transformed in a multi-year, $ 250 million project that is considered the most complex and comprehensive refit project ever undertaken in cruising on small ships.

“We are delighted that our three yachts are completely redesigned, from new, more environmentally friendly engines to beautiful new dining areas, spacious suites and romantic spas,” said Windstar President Christopher Prelog. “We couldn’t be happier with the results. Our passengers who already sail with us on these transformed yachts are ecstatic,
giving us higher customer experience scores than we have ever received in our company’s history.

Star Pride will remain in Italy until the yacht resumes guest activities in April in the Mediterranean. Sister yacht Star Breeze begins sailing in Tahiti next week, while Star Legend wraps up a short season in the Mediterranean before sailing to the Caribbean in November.

All three yachts have seen their maximum capacity increased from 212 to 312 and now offer more of what Windstar customers want, such as additional dining experiences (one is an outdoor barbecue concept with grill guru Steven Raichlen and the other a Spanish restaurant of small plates of Anthony Sasso, one of the youngest chefs to be recognized by the Michelin Guide), a real spa and fitness center, an elegant infinity pool and more outdoor terraces. These three all-suite yachts, along with Windstar’s three classic sailboats, remain small enough to continue to visit the world’s special little harbors and waterways.

Additionally, due to the pandemic, Star Pride and all of Windstar’s yachts have received renovations to update HVAC systems, adding new hospital grade High Efficiency Particulate Filters (HEPA) as well as a process. UV-C (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) air zapping to clean the air on board.
