Several areas of West Point Lake will be closed to the public on October 1 as the US Army Corps of Engineers Project West Point conducts a training exercise for the US Army 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment from Fort Benning , according to a US military press release. Corps of Engineers.

To ensure the safety of the Soldiers engaged in this training exercise, the following locations will be closed to public access on October 1: the road through West Point Dam, Anderson Park, Powerhouse Road, and lower West Lake Point of the dam, to the north, to buoys 9 and 10 of the river channel.

In addition, the Anderson Park boat launch will be closed on September 30 in preparation for the exercise.

Soldiers will be stationed at the entrances to the closed places, while the police will ensure the security of the landing zone via patrol boats.

Commuters taking the West Point Dam Road to cross between Georgia and Alabama will have to take alternate routes, as the Dam Road will be closed all day. Access to lower West Point Lake will be restricted during this training exercise. West Point Lake was chosen as the training site for this day-long exercise as it provides a large area for a safe landing in the water and adequate land areas for mustering purposes.
