Vivace wins first trophy of the Royal Malta Yacht Club racing season

The last race of the series took place in stormy conditions, with constant downpour and force 5 SE winds reaching around 17 knots throughout the short course. Swells of around two meters added to the challenge of the day. Race director Peter Dimech led the fleet back to Outer Munxar to the Valletta fairway towards Għallis Cardinal Mark before heading to the finish line at the Royal Malta Yacht Club. The two new J99s – Calypso (Thomas Ripard) and Lartista (Anthony Calleja) took the top two places with Vivace in third.

After all four races were completed, the final score, which was based on the corrected time of the IRC rated boats, was based on the best total of the four races. This meant JYS Jan of Vivace and Jarhead Foundation skippered by Matthew Farrugia took top honors after completing all four races.

“The challenge of racing is not just to win, but to have the best teamwork possible and have a great time doing it! The next event on the Royal Malta Yacht Club sailing calendar is the Camilleri Marine Gozo Regatta weekend which kicks off with a local race on the public holiday Thursday. This is followed by a schedule of events from Friday afternoon where the fleet heads to Gozo where a full racing schedule will take place on Saturday and Sunday morning.
