The UAE’s National Day celebrations got off to a flying start at the Dubai Marina on Wednesday. Organizers of the event turned the Dubai coast near Bluewater’s Island into a cultural extravaganza on December 1 for the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Almost 500 UAE nationals, residents and visitors attended the big event.

After an official opening ceremony, a fleet of 30 yachts, seven boats, six jet skis and a fly board – adorned with flags, ribbons and balloons in national colors – sailed out to sea. A 50-meter flag was hoisted on a yacht moored near Dubai’s Bluewater Island.

A flyboarder held the other end of the flag as it waved majestically against the backdrop of the world’s tallest and tallest observation wheel – Ain Dubai. During the unique moment of hoisting the flag, the boats formed a circle around it as passengers cheered on the UAE as the national anthem played in the background.

It was a captivating spectacle for residents and visitors to the Marina, who could watch the spectacle from the balconies and walkways of their apartments. After the opening ceremony, the yachts embarked on a two-hour cruise to some of Dubai’s top landmarks, including the Atlantis Hotel. During the ride, traditional dancers Ayyala and Yowlah captivated visitors.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, member of the ruling family and director general of the Office of Citizen Affairs; Sheikh Obaid bin Suhail Al Maktoum; and Indian Consul General in Dubai, Dr Aman Puri.

The Consul General said: “My warmest greetings to all my Emirati brothers and sisters and to all residents of the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates is a symbol of peaceful coexistence and prosperity for the whole world. Today we are also celebrating the best values ​​of the country that the world can learn from.

In addition, to celebrate the year of the 50th, 50 flags were hoisted simultaneously on the yachts moored near the marina.

Organized by AD and M International and professional yacht charter company D3 Marine, this is the second year in a row a “Marine Edition” of the National Day celebrations.

Shameer M Ali, Managing Director of D3 Marine, said: “Last year we hosted a smaller event considering social distancing standards. This year, we were able to celebrate on a large scale. We had over 500 people who celebrated the day with us.

Ali said last year; a 49-meter flag was hoisted. “This was an invitation-only event. Many more people than expected turned out to celebrate this historic event with us, ”he added.
