The Timaru Yacht and Power Boat Club watchtower is getting a makeover with cleaning, sanding and painting undertaken this week.

Club secretary Catherine Illingworth said the watchtower, which overlooks Caroline Bay, is used every Saturday when seniors run and when there are official races.

“We have a person there every Saturday to keep the times,” Illingworth said.

She said regular maintenance is due to salt water and wind hitting the watchtower.

“We try to keep it clean when necessary. It’s just regular maintenance,” she said of the work done this week.

“It’s about taking care of what we have.”

She said the club depended on volunteers to get the job done, and this time was no different.

Club secretary Catherine Illingworth said the maintenance would be carried out by club volunteers.
