BREVARD COUNTY, FL – The Melbourne Yacht Club is inviting the community to an event on Saturday, October 8 to watch the 3-Bridge Fiasco on the Indian River.

The Fiasco starts at 1 p.m. just north of the Eau Gallie bridge and will end at 4 p.m.

This event continues the Melbourne Yacht Club’s 75th anniversary celebration in the community.

A Fiasco Regatta is a race between the bridges, but not a traditional one. Sailboats pass each other in different directions with colorful spinnakers flying, spinning sharply and creating a spectacle.

Half of the boats will sail north to Pineda Causeway, turn and sail to Melbourne Causeway, then turn back and sail to the end of the race at Eau Gallie Bridge.

The other half of the boats will head south initially, reversing course. Good places to watch the Fiasco include Pineapple Park near the Eau Gallie Library and the Eau Gallie Bridge.

The Fiasco is a fun challenge for sailors and an event for the public to watch and enjoy. Funds raised by the Fiasco benefit the Space Coast Sailing Education Foundation (spacecoastsailing.org).

This non-profit organization supports sailing education for people of all ages, including children and young people, and provides sailing scholarships for underprivileged people.

Some 200 families, including individuals and couples, belong to MYC and enjoy the camaraderie of the sailing community, whether they own boats or not. Some join only for social activities.

All members have access to a fleet of Collegiate 420, Sunfish and Lasers sailboats for personal use.

However, MYC is a resource for the community as a whole in that it offers sailing lessons for adults, children and teenagers aged 9-17, where lessons are not restricted to club members. Water safety is emphasized.

The Fiasco concludes a series of unique races organized by MYC – the 11th Annual Commodore Moonlight Regatta, the 2nd Annual Costumed Pirate Regatta and the 44th Annual Mermaid Regatta (all women).
