GINA Fusco and Christine Goodwin walked away with a gold medal after taking victory in their class at the Northampton Head of the Nene.
Rowing masters from Stratford Boat Club swapped seats for the event at Northampton RC, with Fusco at the bow and Goodwin at the bow.
This new combination certainly did not hinder their performance as they won their class 11 seconds ahead of their rivals from Northampton.
Meanwhile, much closer to home, some of the Stratford athletes took part in their own mini lead race on the upstream stretch of the Avon.
It was the club’s second mini-header with five participating crews.
The focus was on the results of races one and two – taking place just past the angler’s parking lot, then up and back – where times were averaged to provide a ranking.
Coxed and coxed fours, quads, doubles and a single all competed, with the overall standings for rounds one and two calculated with the results adjusted for age and boat type.
Mini head organizer Chris Belcher said: “A big thank you to the two launch pilots, timekeepers, result recorders and assistants who made the event possible. We will start again in the spring, hopefully with more individual rowers to make the event more challenging.
