Last Saturday’s Porch Party did not disappoint. Janet Duchaine’s theme of Bringing the South to Southport gave members the opportunity to sample pecan pie and other delicious savory and sweet southern foods. A beautiful sunset seen from the SYC lawn is always a perfect end to a great day in Maine, great food and drink, and time spent with lovely people.

The NINTH Annual Rock the Boat 5K will take place on Saturday August 6th and the forecast calls for cloud cover and warm weather! We can’t wait to see everyone at the start. Registration for Rock the Boat 5K closes Friday night at 5 p.m. The route samples a bit of Pratt’s Island, heads towards the store, Dogfish Head, past the beach and ending with a descent to the harbour. registration available on race day from 7:15 a.m. for an additional cost of $5. There are still places to give a pie or help keep the course safe. Contact [email protected] if you can help. Registration is available on the SYC website or via Runsignup. All proceeds benefit the Southport Junior Yacht Club Sailing Foundation.

Our race schedule this week includes Ladies Sailing at 10 a.m. Friday, Friday Night Rhodes 19 One Design Races starting at 4:30 p.m. and the Cedarbush Triangle Turnabout Race starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Eight of our Junior 420 sailors are at Agamenticus Yacht Club in York, Maine on Monday and Tuesday this week for the Maine State 420 Regatta. We wish them clear skies and favorable winds as they put their sailing skills to the test. at work. The results will be shared next week in this column.
