news, latest news,
This weekend saw the 32nd annual Sussex Inlet Race & Basin Yacht Club Regatta with boats joining from all over New South Wales, despite forecasts of bad weather and high winds. will take place as planned on Friday afternoon, organized by the RSL Bowling Club. Saturday saw the first sailing day of the regatta and 28 yachts lined up for the start of the Basin Chase. It was an out of wind start which made for an interesting and crowded start line and there was quite a bit of “conversation” to be heard, although ultimately everyone got away without incident. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the remainder of the race as the wind was consistently blowing over 20 knots from the south leading to broken spinnakers and a capsize. The good news is that all boats and crews finished the race intact. Sunday dawned cool, cloudy and windy, but the majority of the fleet made it to the start of the outdoor course. The wind was again blowing at more than 20 knots from the south, which made it difficult for the crews to work. It wasn’t long before the faster boats had taken a big lead, eventually overlapping some of the slower boats and like Saturday there were breakages and a capsize which led to retirements. The good news is that all the boats were able to be used again and all the crew came back safe and sound, even if they were a little wet. The SIBYC gave their committee boat, Sparrowfest, piloted by Phil and Greg, a huge thank you, as it didn’t seem at all comfortable for them to have to sit there in the lumpy swell. Final results will be available on the band’s website, www.sibyc.com.au, along with photos from the weekend. The next race will be a Basin Chase on February 19. There will also be the Basin Classic on March 26 which is a company cruise around the Bassin St Georges. For more details, visit the website.

This weekend saw the 32nd annual Sussex Inlet & Basin Yacht Club Regatta with boats coming from all over New South Wales, despite forecasts of bad weather and high winds.
As it turned out, the weather was much better than expected and the rain stayed away, allowing the pre-sail entertainment of barefoot bowling to go ahead as planned on the Friday after- noon, organized by the RSL Bowling Club.
