Ship’s unique campus model expected to boost training at Batu Kawan Industrial Park

GEORGE TOWN: The Ship Campus, located in Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP), Penang, is ready to sail by training talents for the industrial park on its land in a unique campus model in industry.

Managing Director and Managing Director of PKT Logistics Group, Datuk Seri Michael Tio, said The Ship campus is designed to support the growth of BKIP with several national and national programs in mind.

“This includes improving technical and vocational education and training (TVET), boosting youth employment and developing talent.

“The Ship campus is considered the first campus where we train talent for the industry in an industrial park.

“Having top-notch hardware is just the first step, the next is to create a robust ecosystem to help create synergies between all stakeholders – students, businesses, government and community leaders.

“The campus model in industry exposes students to real work environments during their studies.

“It’s the key to bridging the gap between theory and practice, giving students hands-on training to stand out in a competitive job market,” he said at the official launch of The Ship campus on Tuesday. May 24.

Built at a cost of RM160mil, the 306,419 square foot nautically themed building aims to become a hub for talent development and entrepreneurship, while providing food and beverage and lifestyle facilities in the rapidly developing BKIP.

“The campus is equipped with a variety of state-of-the-art facilities to provide students, tenants and the BKIP community at large with an exciting space for education, business, TVET skills development, events and conferences. hobbies.

“With a capacity of 4,000 students across its nine decks, PKT’s educational arm, Peninsula College Malaysia, is now headquartered here while maintaining two satellite campuses in the Klang Valley,” Tio said.

During the ceremony, Yayasan PKT distributed scholarships worth a total of approximately RM2 million to outstanding local students to study at Peninsula College as well as local polytechnics.

Yayasan PKT has also pledged RM1 million to the state government for its plans to establish an education fund to feed young Penangites.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Penang, Tan Sri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who described The Ship campus as an impressive and iconic building with a unique design.

“I am confident that this campus will play an important role in the educational and economic development of Penang, especially in the field of logistics,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister II, Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy noted that over the past two years, the business world has suffered greatly from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“While many have halted their expansion plans, PKT Logistics Group decided to brave the storm and invested RM160 million to build The Ship campus.

“Penang is seeing a steady stream of investment from medical device companies, including disposables and electronics players.

“BKIP itself is home to over 160 companies, a mix of multinational corporations and large local businesses.

“As plants and factories are built, it is clear that the industry is hungry for talent.

“The addition of The Ship campus as a talent hub for the Batu Kawan community is a boon for businesses, as well as the emerging townships surrounding the area.

“The State Government is delighted to welcome The Ship Campus as a private sector ally and align its aspirations to strengthen Penang’s TVET efforts and accelerate the adoption rate of the IR 4.0 by industry,” he said.
