A rare Bored Ape Yach Club NFT has been auctioned for a record amount of US $ 3.4 million.
Bored Ape Yacht Club # 8817, one of 10,000 unique cartoon monkeys on the Ethereum blockchain, sold on Tuesday at Sotheby’s Natively Digital 1.2: The Collectors. The sale, the first on Sotheby’s recently launched Metaverse digital art platform, has been touted as “an NFT with historical significance” due to the collector’s rarity.
“It’s not often that you see a Bored Ape with golden fur go up for sale, and this is the first time that Bored Ape Yacht Club # 8817 has been available since its inception,†Sotheby’s explained. “Less than 1% of all bored monkeys have the golden fur trait, making it an NFT with historical significance.”

Previously, the record for buying the most expensive single Bored Ape NFT was 740 Ethereum – around $ 2.9 million at the time – and was fixed in september.
In other news, Michael Jordan’s Nike Air Ship was auctioned for US $ 1.47 million.
