On Sunday September 5th the annual Mullingar Sailing Club Regatta took place on Lough Owel. The day was perfect for racing, with light and windy weather accompanying the event.

The conditions were a little too light for the race, with winds averaging seven knots, gusts up to 12 knots and overall mild and pleasant weather.

A fleet of 11 GP14 launched in the early afternoon, each hoping that the wind will be on their side.

After four races, including an optional gap for each crew, Stuart McCormick and Bernie Briody took first place, with the best combined result. They were closely followed by Alan Pinder and Jack Hayes in second, and James and Rosie Hackett took third.

A tough series of races meant that all results were very close, and a big thumbs up to the 11 crews that competed.

A fleet of five Mirror dinghies also raced that day, all the junior sailors in the club had a blast. It was great to see such a turnout for this ever popular and always enjoyable event.

The club would particularly like to thank its leaders for the day, Elva, Cliff and Martin who laid out the course and recorded the times and scores, as well as all those who participated in the organization of the event.
