A small Newark Rowing Club contingent won seven medals as they traveled to Northampton Rowing Club for the Head of the Nene.
Running the exposed 1800m course, the club won four events and took three second places.
With boats from each of the club’s teams competing in the event, Ashley Cowley and Adam Haybeard (Molesey Boat Club) scored victories in the Open Double Sculls and Open Coxless Pairs.
Maisie Archer Dytch continued her winning streak in the women’s singles, winning the event and the fastest female rower of the day.
James Gleed transferred his success from double sculls to single sculls, winning the Junior 15 single scull – 22 seconds behind the fastest senior male skier.
The club’s successes continued with the Masters D women’s quadruple (Jo Archer Dytch, Jo Parsons, Julia Loach Martin, Louise Lyons) finishing in second place.
Harry Woodman and Ameile Hickenbottom finished runners-up in the Open Junior 14 and Open Junior 14 Singles respectively, in only their second single scull race.
The club are continuing their preparation for their next event, South Yorkshire Head, on February 12 in Doncaster, where rowers are looking to build on what has been a strong opener of the year.
Cowley, manager and winner of the Open Double Sculls and Open Coxless Pairs, said: “I’m really happy with how the club has progressed over the past year.
“These last two weekends have shown how deep we have in all teams and how talented our young athletes are.”
