Marina/Waterfront Manager – Fishers Island Yacht Club

Founded in 1886, the Fishers Island Yacht Club (FIYC) is located on Fishers Island, New York, an island approximately 9 miles long and 1 mile wide located approx. 2 miles from the Connecticut coast.

In addition to managing a marina for members and passengers consisting of nearly 100 slipways and servicing a mooring field of approximately 40 boats via a boat launch, the club runs strong programs junior and senior sailing. The FIYC has approximately 400 members.

In conjunction with the Board of Governors and Club Administrator, FIYC is seeking to fill the position of Marina/Waterfront Manager for the 2022 season.

responsibilities and duties

  • Launch: Offer a launch service to members and guests.
  • Marina: Provides berthing assistance to members and guests. Undertake regular dock maintenance and safety checks (e.g. replacing or securing loose dock planks, coiling loose hoses and lines, etc.). Supervise and work with dock staff for assistance and maintenance. Instruct dockhands in on-water safety practices.
  • Ownership: Work with the landscaper to identify lawn and plant maintenance issues. Make sure walkways and porches are clear, safe and in good repair. Keep non-member vehicles away from parking in season.
  • Buildings: Ensure “mint condition” during pre-season by power washing, touching up paint, cleaning gutters, windows, etc. Maintain “in good condition” with daily and weekly cleaning protocols.
  • Club Boats: Periodically check the operational condition of the club’s motorboats and sailboats. Replace fluids, refuel, check bilge. Work with stevedores to ensure regular cleaning and pumping of boats.
  • Special Projects: Assist the club administrator with organizing the party, tent, cleanup, etc.

time commitment

  • May 1 – October 31 (20-40 hrs/week)
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday

Qualifications and skills

  • Previous experience working in a yacht club, marina and/or shipyard
  • Valid and current USCG Launch Operator License
  • Significant experience in the operation of sailing and motor boats
  • Experience in marine maintenance and repair
