At the recent Cannes Yachting Festival, MBY Deputy Editor-in-Chief Jack Haines took the opportunity to tour the Axopar 25, which was making its world debut.

Although it looks very similar, the 25 uses a different hull mold than the 22 and is 0.8m longer. The main difference is that the Axopar 25 – available as a Spyder or T-Top (pictured) – instead of the open deck at 22, has a cuddy cabin with sleeping space for two and a toilet.

On deck, instead of the bypass layout of the 22, the Axopar 25 has an asymmetrical design with a gangway on the port side that leads directly forward where there is a double sundeck placed at the top of the elegant roof.

At the rear, the Axopar 25 has the same choice of layouts as its little brother with either a bench, a U-shaped dining area or a multiple storage unit with a sundeck to choose from.

If the Axopar 22 is anything to go by, the deep V double-decker hull should be absolute fishing and is likely to hit well above its weight when conditions get rough.

A wide selection of single outboards are available with horsepower ranging from the modest 150hp Mercury to the top of the line 225hp, capable of 40 knots full blast and comfortable cruising in the early 1930s.

Axopar wants this and the 22 to appeal to a new breed of boaters, perhaps a first-time owner who is looking for something beautiful to look at but also safe, practical and easy to handle that will take care of them and their families.

The 22 set the tone, but with the added comfort and safety of a protected cabin on a boat compact enough to sit on a trailer, the Axopar 25 is likely to prove to be a popular choice.
