Sunday morning’s light southerly breeze barely pulled the Hillarys Yacht Club Division 1 fleet away from the starting line with three crossings early after getting in the way to be called up to start again.

Bad Habits (Ian Holder) was one of the holdout yachts, but they ignored the offense to continue and claim a four-minute victory in the fifth regularity race of the season.

Second was Sophia (Bruce Utting) and Pearl third with Whispering Jack (Bruce Bradford) the fastest.

The experience and skills of current club champions Covert Operation (Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson) were evident in the volatile conditions as they forged a big lead to finish first and fastest in Division 2.

Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) and Volant (Emille Janssen, Frank Hagemann, John Ball, Kevin Meta) fought well, finishing 20 seconds apart in second and third handicap.

Sailing a very fast First 35, La Premiere, Gary and Julie Beeck recorded a first and a faster in a fleet of nine Division 3 yachts. Peter Hibberd on Hard Evidence finished one minute behind for the second. place with Marc Carpenter on Intuition in third place.

Five Hillarys yachts will head to Cockburn Sound for the annual regatta between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
