Four things spotted in Frank Lampard’s first Everton training session

The back office team gets to work

Of course, it wasn’t just new Everton manager Frank Lampard taking his first steps at the Finch Farm training ground.

The manager had brought with him a new coaching staff to familiarize themselves with the squad of players, and they wasted no time getting straight to work.

One particular image shows Lampard and the five men in his immediate squad posing on the training ground ahead of their first session together.

Fans will have been delighted to see Duncan Ferguson and Alan Kelly on this team, as they have been important staff members over the past few months and years.

While change is necessary, continuity and team understanding can also be essential in certain areas.

But there were also new faces who seemed heavily involved in the session.

Everton’s new assistant manager Joe Edwards oversaw his first round of training, joined by Paul Clement as first-team coach and Chris Jones as first-team coach and responsible for the performance.

Blues fans are hoping these new staff members can be a key factor in transforming their squad over the coming weeks.

Close the watch

Lampard realizes there is a big challenge ahead of him as manager of Everton.

He takes over a side that have managed to win just one of their last 14 Premier League games, and even that only thanks to a last-minute scream from Demarai Grey.

Disappointing defeats had left confidence on the pitch at one of its lowest levels and the anger in the stands on many of those occasions was palpable.

Something has to change, and the new boss seems right to work on it.

What’s interesting to see from Finch Farm is how close Lampard remains to the action as his players return to action.

Some images show the new boss crouching down to get a better angle of what certain players are doing, while a number of photos show the manager keeping a particularly close eye on Richarlison.

Lampard can also be seen having a separate chat with Anthony Gordon, Andros Townsend and the Brazilian at one point in the session, perhaps ready to impart some attacking wisdom to them.

The essential news from Everton FC

All smiles

Truly, the standout message you can read from the latest set of training images is a boost of optimism.

It was rumored on social media throughout the transfer deadline as the Evertonians were ready to unite behind their new manager and support their squad until the end of the campaign.

And, while confidence has been low in the squad for the past few weeks, that didn’t appear to be the case in the footage from this session.

Not only did the coaching staff get huge smiles on their faces for the majority of the footage, but many of the players are in the same boat as well.

This could be a crucial factor for the new boss over the next few weeks.

If a sense of negativity and pressure is lifted from the shoulders of these players, they have a much better chance of getting back to their best form and moving away from the relegation zone once again.

This is what the people of Everton desperately want to see.

Player involvement

Much of the latest set of images was, understandably enough, about the new manager and his coaching staff for the most part.

This means that there has not yet been a good idea of which team members did or did not participate in Monday afternoon’s session.

Of course, the new signings didn’t take part in Monday’s session, as neither Donny van de Beek nor Dele Alli had yet signed on the dotted line for their new clubs.

Expected players are missing like Abdoulaye Doucoure, Fabian Delph and Tom Davies as they continue to recover from injury.

One interesting thing to note is that it looked like the young players continued to be involved in the last session at Finch Farm, no doubt looking to impress their new boss from the first gates.

Tyler Onyango and Harry Tyrer were two Under-23 stars pictured as part of first-team training on Monday ahead of the weekend’s clash with Brentford.

Others may have been involved in the session, but no photos of them have been released – with Lewis Dobbin in particular, a player who may have had his eyes opened.

Other than that, most of the usual stars could be seen hitting the training ground in high spirits, looking to kick off a new beauty regimen.
