Theo Stocker takes a look at the Beneteau Oceanis 34.1, the new replacement for the Oceanis 34, which is configured for simple navigation

The Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 is a brand new replacement for the previous Oceanis 34 and follows the formula of the current Oceanis range: wide beam well advanced, a full length bilge, double rudders and two wheels.

The purpose of these changes is to create maximum volume on and below deck, while creating more form stability and heeling power, while keeping the waterline relatively narrow for better navigation in light winds.

On deck, it is fitted out for easy navigation.

A self-tacking jib is standard, as is the reefing mainsail, but a furler in the mast or a square grandma are also options.

The mainsheet is taken aft just forward of the bars on each side.

The split platform swept aft spreaders and no backstay, keeping the aft end of the cockpit clear.

There are three deep, shallow and hydraulic lift keel options.

Seats aft of the wheels give the helm a perch over an otherwise open transom with a fold-down swim platform.

A permanent cockpit table provides storage and bracing.

Below decks, the Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 is available in two or three cabin versions.

Double doors in the forward cabin, an aft-facing folding chart table on the port side and an L-shaped galley on the starboard side, as well as hull portholes and coachroof opening hatches give this boat an impression of space.

The tank capacity of 130L for diesel and 231-361L for water should give reasonable amounts for a family cruise, all for around £ 200,000 VAT paid and ready to sail.
