For the first time in 150 years of history, a woman commodore has been elected by the members of the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club in Dover, Kent.

In a unanimous vote, Judith White became the 34th commodore of one of Britain’s oldest royal yacht clubs.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege,” said Judith. “I am honored and proud to have the thanks and support of so many of our members. “

His mandate comes at a time when the club is experiencing a post-Covid revival.

The pandemic has brought many challenges to the club, the social side and the friendships they love have been put on the back burner for the past 18 months.

While some saw it as a problem, in her role as vice-comodore and honorary secretary, Judith saw an opportunity.

With the help of the members, she took advantage of her time to undertake a major renovation of the clubhouse.

Judith said:

“I am now delighted and proud to present our clubhouse to visiting sailors who sail the marina at the Port of Dover and to our many guests from Dover and surrounding areas.

The number of members increases every week and no need to have a boat to enjoy the atmosphere of the club.
