FERN RIDGE, Ore. – Five recreational vehicles belonging to members of the Eugene Yacht Club were destroyed in a fire overnight Monday.

According to club officials, the fire broke out inside one of the property’s trailers at around 1:30 a.m. The fire then spread to several other RVs. All were empty and no one was injured.

“We were really grateful to (Lane Fire Authority). They have been great partners over the years and have done a phenomenal job of keeping it from spreading further,” said club vice-comodore Matt Sprick.

The motorhomes belong to the members of the club and are used during the summer as a place to stay between sailings. Sprick said the fire is not expected to impact club operations.

Lane Fire Authority Lt. Dean Chappell said the fire caused damage of $ 200,000 and was triggered by a short in a refrigerator in one of the RVs. The fire destroyed five recreational vehicles and damaged one.

The Eugene Yacht Club is located at the northwest corner of Fern Ridge Reservoir.
