ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (WJZ) – Directory Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade was canceled for Saturday evening due to the expected high winds, the club said on its website.
“Gale warnings are in place, and while this weather incident may prove short-lived as it passes through our area later today, parade organizers have determined that the parade should be canceled by caution. While everyone is disappointed, safety is the number one concern, and the protection of our volunteers and participants comes first, âCommodore Liz Filter and Dan McQuay, General Manager, wrote in a statement.

Although there is no parade, the club has asked participants to turn on their lights from where they are moored. The club will judge the participants while they remain in place and hand out the prizes on Sunday during the skippers’ brunch. People’s Choice and Shearwater Up the Creek awards cannot be presented.

The event is an annual tradition of boats lit up with Christmas lights as they parade through Annapolis Harbor.

High winds varying between 15 mph and 25 mph with gusts close to 40 mph to 55 mph are expected on Saturday.
