CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina (WNCT) – An annual training event was held Thursday at Camp Lejeune involving several other countries.
The event, called Exercise Burmese Chase, is performed annually to increase readiness and maintain relationships. It will run until October 1. Camp Lejeune hosts allied forces from the United Kingdom, France, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.
Thursday morning’s events included an infantry immersion event, which is a training system that prepares Marines and Sailors for deployment to real battlefields with real-life scenes, sounds and smells .
“Marines and partner forces, essentially going through a live exercise and simulator with live role players to practice infantry tactics, as well as shooting maneuvers,†said Captain George Gibson.
Then there was a shooters gymnasium, where participants simulated marksmanship training in a virtual setting. After that, the Marines had the chance to learn about the vehicle rollover conditions and repeat the steps necessary to escape in the event of an accident.
“We put the Marines and partners in a frame that mimics a military vehicle, we knock them down. And from there, we teach them how to get out of the vehicle they’re in, â€Gibson said.
Then came the boat training, where they rehearsed man overboard exercises on rubber combat boats. The final event of the day was a convoy combat simulator, which provides an immersive environment for training convoy operations.
“The point of the exercise is to identify the gaps and really develop them so that when we move forward we are a more lethal fighting force,†Gibson said.
