If you’re experiencing metaverse fatigue, you’re better off bonding for the long haul, as the teased adidas collaboration from Bored Apes Yacht Club shows we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s to come.

All this talk about meta (verses), NFTs, and cryptocurrency can be a lot for tech naïve (i.e. me) to try and understand. Somehow, we feel like our tech-savvy peers are aging us as they invest more and more time and money in NFTs and prepare for the switch to Web3.

These changes, although seemingly sudden, have been a slow but constant development that shifts the border between the physical and digital world, ie the “phygital” world. Don’t ignore it – Staples Center is set to become the Crypto.com Arena, Fortnite is the new luxury fashion playground, Gucci has an Xbox, and Roblox has fashion prizes.

While many of us are still in denial or trying to become disillusioned with the transition as it unfolds, adidas is very proud of its position, announcing a collaboration with Bored Apes Yacht Club.

If you are a Twitter user, you know the characters of BAYC. These NFTs have taken the world by storm, heralded as the supreme of the metaverse – a scale of influence clearly recognized by the biggest players in the industry.

Without a doubt, an NFT is on the cards, but it also seems likely that a physical product will follow, highlighting how brands will seek to bridge the gap between adopters and opponents of all things metaverse.

Three Stripes’ plan appears to be multifaceted in its approach to Web3 change. Recently, it announced that it is teaming up with cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase to reclaim land in the sandbox.

Likewise, Nike also brought land to Roblox and announced “NikeLand,” as well as filing for digital patents for its logos and sneakers.

While many will continue to dismiss the magnitude of the change to come, brands of all sizes are clearly striving to get ahead of the curve. Heck, even Apple knows the iPhone will eventually be obsolete.
