The 14the The annual Belfast Harbor Fest, presented to the community by the Rotary Club of Belfast in August, featured boat building, music, food, crafts, kids’ activities and more around the corner 2,000 people for two days.

“With the support of over three dozen sponsors and the participation of over 100 Rotary boat builders, racers, artists, exhibitors, vendors and volunteers, the event was a real success,” said the Rotary president John Golden club, in a statement. “Despite the challenges of COVID-19 and a savage thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, Rotary has raised over $ 28,000, provided nearly $ 3,000 for the Waldo County Pet Food Pantry, and the proceeds will be used for community service projects ranging from pantry support to helping families in need to provide holiday gifts to over 150 children.

Highlights of Harbor Fest included the National Boatbuilding Challenge, Front Street Shipyard tours, classic boat show, marine equipment swap, entertainment by local musicians and the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers, road racing 5K Bug Run, a Touch-A-Truck activity and online charity auction. Sunday morning, a cardboard boat race just for fun with seven entries, two of which sank safely but spectacularly.

“We couldn’t have done this without all of these volunteers and the support of the City of Belfast and its Parks and Recreation officials,” Golden said. “We are especially grateful to major sponsors First National Bank and First National Wealth Management, the Maine Bicentennial Commission, Front Street Shipyard, Nordic Aquafarms, Down East Credit Union, Waldo County General Hospital and United Farmers Market. Thirty-seven generous local businesses and two dozen vendors, exhibitors and individuals made it all possible. It takes more than thunder and lightning to keep a good Rotary club on the ground.

Belfast Harbor Fest 2022 is scheduled for August 19, 20 and 21, 2022 on the Belfast waterfront.
