HMS St Vincent served as a training facility for recruits of young sailors between 1927 and 1968

Located in Gosport, HMS St Vincent was a shore-based Royal Navy facility that entered service on June 1, 1927 as a training facility for boys and juniors.

At the start of World War II, the boys were evacuated to the Isle of Man, where they merged with those evacuated from HMS Caledonia to form HMS St George, which was officially established in 1939.

HMS St Vincent became a training facility for Fleet Air Arm officers and an overflow for the Royal Navy barracks before becoming a boys’ training facility again after the end of the war. reopening as such on December 1, 1945.

It continued to operate until 1968, when it was decided to close St Vincent. The official closing ceremony took place on December 8, 1968.

The base was handed over to the land agent and St Vincent’s College is now located on the site which was established in 1987.
