It was another busy week for Newark Rowing Club as several events once again took place across the country.

14 solo rowers traveled to London to compete at Scullers Head.

The race is a solo rowing event on a full 7.2 km boat race course.

James Gleed was the club’s most notable performance as he finished second in the Junior 16 class.

Oliver Robertson finished in the top 10% of his field among the top 50 rowers out of 501 competitors overall, making him the highest ranked rower in Newark that day.

Laura Bates placed third in the Senior Lightweight Singles category.

This is an excellent result for the rower in her first singles race.

Laura’s father Chris Bates competed at Scullers Head for the first time in 26 years.

Oliver Robertson has become the first Newark Rowing Club member to be selected for the Coastal World Championships.

He will compete for Team GB in the Beach Sprint Mixed U19 Double Sculls.

Club chairman Chris Bates commented:

“This is an exceptional achievement for Oliver.

“He’s worked incredibly hard this season and been dynamic in the way he’s changed his training to suit the coastal discipline.

“We are looking forward as a club to supporting him at the Championships”.

Head Coach, Ashley Cowley, has been selected to coach Team GB for the European Rowing Coastal Championships in San Sebastian, Spain at the end of October.

Newark is now entering a transition period before the team resumes training in October.

The club will prepare for the first major event, Nottingham Autumn Head in mid-October.
